Dr. Urbanek is a double degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He received his dental degree from Indiana University, a medical degree from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology from Indiana University. Coincident with his studies, he was awarded a two year research fellowship to study facial growth and development by the National Institutes of Dental and Craniofacial Research. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has been the leading authority in treating TMD in Tennessee communities for over 40 years.
Dr. Urbanek developed and designed the Urbanek TMJ Device and Protocol. This patented and FDA approved non-surgical device fits in the roof of the mouth and is uniquely designed to allow only the front teeth to touch, leaving a small space between the back teeth. This removes 90% of the load from the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), decreasing the inflammation within the joint relieving the symptoms of TMD.
The company he founded, TMJ Services, is currently developing a network of doctor/providers using this device and protocol to duplicate these successful outcomes for patients throughout the United States and Canada.
During his long career in Middle Tennessee, he has performed well over 5000 major facial reconstructive cases in addition to his busy office surgical case load emphasizing the removal of impacted 3rd molars (Wisdom Teeth) and surgical placement of dental implants.
Dr. Urbanek has been an aviator (private pilot) for over 50 years and a member of many aviation organizations including past president of the Flying Physicians Association and has been certified by the FAA as an Aviation Medical Examiner. He is the founder of major medical clinics in both Haiti and Jamaica and active in the Franklin Noon Rotary and Franklin Rodeo
Dr. Urbanek, along with his wife Ann, have three children and six grandchildren who thankfully
all live within the boundaries of Williamson County
